CITL AI Grants

Funds will be determined based on the scope of the project. Individuals interested in minimally introducing generative AI with the intent of trying an AI activity that is not integral to the course learning outcome may receive funding of up to $750. Individuals who will be designing or redesigning a more significant portion of their course may receive funding of up to $1500.  

Examples of minimal integration –  

• Redesigning 1-2 assessments to incorporate generative AI. 
• Integration of generative AI into student learning opportunities such as test prep, study development, tutor assistance, etc. 

Examples of significant integration –  

• Redesigning what would be the equivalent of a module 
• Redesign of major, summative assignment(s) that relates specifically to at least one course outcome 

Recipients who publish on this work within the 2024-2025 academic year in a peer-reviewed publication will receive an additional $1000 bonus upon official notification of acceptance for publication. 

All faculty and instructors are eligible to apply.  

In addition to following through with the project plans as described in the application, the applicant must: 

• Plan and implement an assessment of the project. This could include learning activities, assessments, etc. Sample artifacts will be submitted to the CITL after assessment along with a short reflection statement over the findings.  
• Complete the “Teaching with AI” course through the Auburn University Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. Upon acceptance, you will work with a CITL staff member to register for this course. This is a self-paced course that should take between 8-10 hours to complete. If you complete all requirements, you will receive the AUAI Explorer badge. 
• Share results and experiences with the larger WKU community through at least one presentation in a venue of your choice: a CITL event, Professional Development Day, college/department presentation, etc. Please note that if you intend to publish your work, an IRB approval will likely be required. 

To apply for an AI Grant, please complete the application linked at the bottom of the page by June 12, 2024. Applicants will be notified of their application status by June 21, 2024. 

In addition to general demographic information, in the application you will be asked to respond to the following questions.   

• What is your experience with and interest in generative AI tools? (Please note that prior experience is not required.) 
• What course does your project target? 
• Describe your proposed research project. Which generative AI tools will you use and how? What parts of your course will be impacted? 
• How might your use of generative AI enhance student learning? 
• What challenges do you anticipate in terms of student learning?  
• What is your timeline for implementing and completing this project? 

If you are interested in publishing this work, please answer these additional questions. 

• What student course work could you use as data to assess changes in students' learning and/or performance? 
• What other ways could you measure impacts on students? 
• How could you include a control condition or comparison group to measure impacts?
